Gasping and Moaning

by admin on January 19, 2011

I wrote about this issue once before (one of my earlier posts that disappeared), and I’m still no closer to knowing what to do about it. When writing erotic fiction — especially short stories — where virtually all the action is happening between the sheets, how do you keep the writing fresh? How many ways are there to say that the heroine “gasped”? Or moaned, whimpered or mewed? After a few pages it does get repetitive.

My Roget’s Thesaurus only goes so far. And my Romance Writer’s Phrase Book doesn’t stray into the more erotic areas. I’m about to start my own list.

Add to that list “ways in which a person can breath when aroused”, and “ways in which a body moves when aroused”. And heck, what about other words that mean “aroused”?

Thanks for thinking of me. I just have enough time and energy to concentrate on writing romance, so think I will pass. Continued success to you.
